What to check before you buy
- Sensor size beats megapixels
- A one-inch sensor at 20MP collects far more light than a tiny sensor at 48MP. Light is what makes evening photos work.
- Under 250 grams skips FAA registration
- Recreational drones at 250g or heavier must be registered with the FAA. Lighter models fly straight out of the box.
- Stabilisation is not optional
- Handheld video without optical or gimbal stabilisation is unwatchable at anything beyond a slow walk.
